What's new

New features and improvements, newest first.

  1. A cleaner speed test

    • New start screen: pick what the text includes, see a preview, then choose 1, 2 or 5 minutes.
    • While you type, one simple bar shows time left, WPM, accuracy and characters, with a line that runs down as time passes.
    • The text is ready to type as soon as the test opens. If you click away, press Enter to carry on.
    Take the speed test
  2. Practice in six more languages, your own text or code

    • Practice in Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Indonesian and Filipino. Pick a language from the button in the top right of the practice page or in Settings, and the word games use it too.
    • Accented letters (é, ñ, ü, ß) can be switched off if your keyboard doesn't have them.
    • Settings has three kinds of practice text: common words, your own words or paragraphs, and short lines of JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, HTML, CSS or SQL.
    • New Numbers option mixes numbers like 42 or 1998 into your practice words.
    • Press Enter to start typing on the practice page, no click needed.
    • The first number-row and Shift lessons are a little easier to pass.

  3. Speed test options and streaks in games

    • Choose whether speed test passages include capital letters, punctuation, numbers or symbols, or type your own text.
    • After each speed test, see the keys you missed in that test and practice them straight away.
    • Game-over screens show your practice streak for the week.
    • Keys you've fixed now leave your weak keys list sooner.
  4. Capitals and punctuation in practice

    • Settings can add capital letters and punctuation to the practice text, so you can work on Shift and symbols.
    • The speed test now points out your weak keys and suggests a focus drill.
  5. Find and fix your weak keys

    • As you practice, the site spots the keys that slow you down or trip you up and shows them under the practice box.
    • Short focus drills target those keys, with a before-and-after comparison when you finish.
    • New guide for teachers using the site in class.
    Open free practice
  6. Guided touch typing lessons

    • Step-by-step lessons from the home row to numbers, capitals and full sentences.
    • Each lesson has a short text drill, then a drill where keys fall down their lanes.
    • Free practice with any keys you choose.
    • Milestones now show how close you are to each one.
