This typing test measures how fast and how accurately you type. Pick a 1, 2 or 5 minute test, start typing the passage, and your speed in words per minute (WPM) and accuracy update as you go. When the time is up you get your results and the keys you missed most, with a short drill to practice them.
Many employers ask for a typing speed, often 40 to 60 WPM for office, admin and data entry roles. Take the 5 minute test to see where you stand, read how job typing tests work, and compare your score with the typing speed chart. You can also get a free typing certificate with your WPM and accuracy.
The fastest way to improve is to learn touch typing. Start with the free typing lessons, practice every day on the typing practice page, or warm up with typing games.
Every 5 characters you type, spaces included, count as one word. Your WPM is the number of words typed divided by the minutes taken, so 200 characters in one minute is 40 WPM. Accuracy is the share of characters typed correctly.
Most people type around 38 to 40 WPM. 40 to 55 WPM is typical for office work, and many data entry and admin jobs ask for 45 to 60 WPM or more, with accuracy above 95%.
The 1 minute test is a quick check. Job typing tests are often 3 to 5 minutes, so the 5 minute test gives a steadier number and shows whether you can keep your speed up.
Yes. The test is free and needs no sign up or download. You can also get a free typing certificate to share or print.
Learn touch typing so you don't look at the keys, then practice a little every day. Accuracy comes first: speed follows once your fingers know where the keys are.
