Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about typing practice, WPM calculation, and our typing games.

What is WPM and how is it calculated?

WPM stands for Words Per Minute. It measures how many words you can type in one minute. Our system calculates WPM by dividing the total characters typed by 5 (to standardize for average word length), then dividing by the time taken in minutes. For example, typing 300 characters in 2 minutes equals (300 ÷ 5) ÷ 2 = 30 WPM.

What is a good typing speed?

The average typing speed is about 40 WPM. A speed of 65–75 WPM is considered professional-level, while 100+ WPM is expert territory. Most data entry and administrative jobs require a minimum of 45–60 WPM.

How can I improve my typing speed?

To improve your typing speed: practice regularly with our typing games, focus on accuracy first before speed, use proper finger positioning on the home row, gradually increase your speed, take regular breaks to avoid fatigue, and use our analytics to track your progress.

What are the different typing games available?

We offer several typing games: Word Builder (unscramble letters to form words), Code Typer (practice typing code), Falling Words (type words before they fall), Speed Typing (timed typing tests), Typing Race (compete with others), and Typing Asteroids (space-themed typing).

Is the typing practice free to use?

Yes, all our typing games and practice sessions are completely free to use. No registration, subscription, or payment is required. You can start practicing immediately.

How long does it take to learn touch typing?

Most people see meaningful improvement in 2–4 weeks of 15–20 minutes of daily practice. Full touch typing fluency typically takes 2–3 months of consistent effort.

Can I practice typing code specifically?

Yes! Our Code Typer game is specifically designed for programming practice. It includes various programming languages and syntax highlighting to help you improve your coding typing speed and accuracy.

How often should I practice typing?

For best results, practice typing for 15–30 minutes daily. Consistency is more important than long sessions. Our daily progress tracking helps you maintain a regular practice routine.

How do I track my progress?

Use our detailed analytics page to track your progress. It shows your WPM trends, accuracy improvements, practice time, and performance across different games. You can also view daily, weekly, and monthly statistics.

Are there different difficulty levels?

Yes, our games adapt to your skill level. Word Builder increases difficulty as you progress, Speed Typing offers different time limits, and you can choose from various word lists and topics to match your interests.

What if I make mistakes while typing?

Mistakes are part of learning! Our system tracks your accuracy and shows you where you made errors. You can review your mistakes and focus on improving accuracy. It’s better to type slowly and accurately than fast with many errors.
